5,729 square metres of potholes repaired in Riga in December and January
Riga, Feb 7 (LETA) - In December and January, potholes on Riga streets were repaired in an area of 5,729 square meters, which is 2.5 times less than in the same period a year ago, the Riga City Council told LETA.
Potholes on the streets develop rapidly in the changing weather conditions, when thaws alternate with frosts. Potholes dangerous to traffic are repaired regardless of the weather conditions, even in winter, the city council said.
During the winter months, when temperatures are below freezing, traffic hazard potholes are repaired more intensively using cold asphalt paving technology. This is the only pothole repair technology that can be used regardless of the weather conditions, even when temperatures are below zero. The main objective of this work is to avoid dangerous traffic situations.
In spring, when the average daily temperature is above +5 degrees C, the city will start more extensive pothole repairs using conventional technologies, which ensure a longer service life and allow not only traffic-dangerous potholes to be repaired, but also smaller defects to be fixed, explained the Riga City Council.
