RIGA, Nov 25 (LETA) - In those municipalities where the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases exceeds Latvia's average infection rate by 50 percent additional safety measures have been introduced for public transport, limiting the number of passengers to 50 percent of capacity, LETA was told at the Transport Ministry. 

As reported, the cumulative number of Covid-19 cases exceeds Latvia's average figure by 50 percent in 12 municipalities: Daugavppils, Baldone, Kraslava, Salacgriva, Akniste, Varaklani, Marupe, Malpils, Smiltene, Garkalne, Limbazi and Salaspils.

According to the Transport Ministry, the additional safety measures are required in municipalities where last week's 14-day cumulative number of Covid-19 cases per 100,000 population was 50 percent higher than on average in Latvia. The number of passengers on public transport in these municipalities has to be limited to 50 percent of the vehicle's capacity. 

In cases where it is not possible control the embarking and disembarking of passengers, seats have to be tagged to ensure compliance with the distancing requirement. 

The new safety measures are affective as of Wednesday, November 25.
