Vidzeme Party has filed a complaint to CVK about results of elections in Ogre municipality
Riga, June 11 (LETA) - The Vidzeme Party has submitted a complaint to the Central Election Commission (CVK) about the results of the local elections in Ogre municipality, the party said in a statement.
The political force believes that there are "reasonable suspicions" that one specific, documented vote in Ogre municipality was not counted in the official election results, and that this vote could have been decisive in winning a seat at the local council.
"Technical failures and manual counting at late hours increase the likelihood of human error. We cannot ignore this," the party said.
As reported, Latvia First party has challenged the results of Riga City Council elections in an appeal filed with the Central Election Commission, the Prosecutor General's Office and the State Security Service, calling for the election results to be ruled invalid, the political party informed LETA.
In the appeal, Latvia First claims that votes were not counted correctly in polling stations.
Also, the leader of list of Latvia's Union of Russians in the Liepaja municipal elections, Jelena Osipova, has appealed the results of the elections in Liepaja. As many as 20,004 voters took part in the elections in Liepaja, while 19,819 envelopes were declared valid. According to the political force's calculations, 929 people, or 4.64 percent of the electorate, voted for the list of Latvia's Union of Russians, and only 62 votes were needed to overcome the 5 percent barrier. According to Osipova, the missing voters "were simply stolen from the list" or disappeared due to a technical error.
Similarly, Raimonds Lejnieks-Puke, a candidate on the joint list of the parties Sovereign Power and New Latvians, has also appealed the election results in Jelgava this week at the Central Election Commission (CVK) over technical problems experienced in the local elections.
It was also reported that the counting of votes in the 2025 municipal elections encountered technical problems on Saturday and during the night of Sunday. Nevertheless, all votes were counted on Sunday and the Central Election Commission has confirmed the results of the elections.
The Central Election Commission has also been criticized for dissatisfactory communication with both the public and the polling stations.
President Edgars Rinkevics said on Sunday that the Central Election Commission and the Digital Development Agency failed in organizing local elections. Later on, he said that the authorities had not provided any information that would cast doubt on the results or the legality of the elections.
The Central Election Commission's Chairwoman Kristine Saulite announced at the start of Wednesday's meeting of the Saeima's State Administration and Local Government Committee that she would resign, but after the meeting she changed her mind, saying that she had not made up her mind yet. Saulite told reporters she is still thinking whether to resign or not. "I have not yet put anything on paper," she said, adding that she is "thinking about issue".
Meanwhile, Smart Administration and Regional Development Minister Inga Berzina (New Unity), who has announced her resignation, had suspended the State Digital Development Agency's Director Jorens Liopa from his job.
