Ludza, Sigulda, Adazi regions happy about voter turnout and have not observed any problems in work of polling stations

RIGA, June 7 (LETA) - The election commissions of Ludza, Sigulda and Adazi regions are pleased with the voter turnout, while pointing out that no incidents or problems have been observed, the chairpersons of the polled municipal election commissions told LETA.

Iveta Gajevska, chairwoman of the Ludza regional election commission, told LETA that elections in Ludza were going well and no incidents had been detected. She also assessed the voter turnout as good, which has increased compared to the turnout on the days before the elections.

Anna Kalnina, the chairperson of the election commission of Sigulda Region, told LETA that the turnout in the municipality was positive, adding that the municipality was one of the most active according to the current voting indicators and that the turnout this year could possibly exceed the results of the last elections. The turnout was also relatively high on the days leading up to the elections, with about 17 percent of those eligible to vote, Kalnina said.

She also said that no significant incidents have been observed, but several voters had been detected who had tried to vote in Sigulda, even though they had declared in the municipality after the legal deadline and had not yet been included in the voting list.

Agita Berkmane, head of the municipal election commission of Adazi Region, told LETA that voter turnout at polling stations in the municipality is continuous.

She said that all the polling stations are being visited today, and there are mostly larger or smaller queues. In general, the elections are going smoothly and no problems or incidents have been detected during the electoral process. "It is good to see that there is a big turnout in Adazi, it shows that people care," said Berkmane.

Aivars Grikis, chairman of the Jurmala City Election Commission, told LETA that the turnout in these elections was about the same as in previous elections. Voters have so far been knowledgeable, but in rare cases when there was any confusion, staff have promptly provided clarifications.

Overall, there have been no particular problems in the electoral process and everything has been smooth, with minimal queues.

The turnout is "wavy", said Grikis, noting that now, in the middle of the day, is the busiest time. Grikis also expects the busiest period to be in the evening, shortly before the polls close.
