    More than 60% of staff vaccinated against Covid-19 in 31 education institutions in Riga

    RIGA, July 8 (LETA) - More than 60 percent of staff have been vaccinated against Covid-19 in 31 education institutions in Riga, Riga City Council education, culture and sports department director Maris Krastins said in a press conference today.

    So, totally, more than half of teachers in Riga have been immunized.

    The vaccinated staff includes 58 percent of teachers, 37 percent of technical staff in schools, and 35 percent of teachers and 52 percent of technical staff in preschools.

    According to the information provided by the department, there are 282 general education schools, kindergartens, music, arts and sports schools and vocation centers in Riga with almost 8,000 employees in preschools and almost 17,000 employees in general education schools.

    In order to safely resume in-person learning at schools, at least 80 percent of staff should be immunized.

    As reported, the Riga City Council plans to grant EUR 1.5 million in monetary prizes to schools with at least 80 percent of staff vaccinated against Covid-19.
