Crowd testing reveals Covid-19 in 3.27% of samples collected in eastern Latvian municipalities
RIGA, Mar 17 (LETA) - Crowd testing in the eastern Latvian municipalities of Balvi, Gulbene, Vilaka, Rugaji and Baltinava last week revealed Covid-19 in 3.27 percent of all saliva samples collected from local residents in this area, according to information released by the Health Inspectorate.
The highest number of saliva samples - 1,807 - were received Wednesday, and 81 of them, or 4.5 percent, tested positive for Covid-19.
Out of the 512 test samples collected on Tuesday, the coronavirus was found in 20 samples, or 3.9 percent. On Thursday, the virus was found in 38 out of 1,482 test samples, or 2.6 percent.
On Friday, the share of positive tests was down to 2 percent as the coronavirus was found in 22 out of 1,124 test samples.
In the four days of screening, local residents submitted 4,925 saliva samples for Covid-19 tests, and 161 of them, or 3.27 percent, proved positive.
Crowd testing in the Gulbene and Balvi region was carried out after a major Covid-19 outbreak in the area.
