Nearly 200 Covid-19 positive patients are currently being treated at Latvia's mental health hospitals
RIGA, Jan 19 (LETA) - As many as 194 Covid-19 positive patients are currently being treated in Latvia's psychiatric hospitals, according to the Emergency Medical Service's data presented on Tuesday at a joint meeting of the government and the Crisis Management Council.
The highest number of mental patients with Covid-19 - 65 - have been reported at the Gintermuiza psychiatric hospital in Jelgava. Of the hospital's employees, 38 have also tested positive for the coronavirus.
Covid-19 has also been found in 47 patients and seven employees at Daugavpils Psychoneurological Hospital.
Strenci Psychoneurological Hospital has reported 31 Covid-19 cases among patients and 11 among employees and 26 patients and 41 employees have fallen ill with Covid-19 at the Akniste hospital.
Thirteen patients and ten employees have the infection at the Piejura Hospital in Liepaja and 12 patients and 39 employees have the virus in Riga Psychoneurological and Drug Addiction Center.
As reported, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence per 100,000 residents is 673.2 cases at the moment in Latvia, which is 1.6 times higher than the European Union and the European Economic Area's average rate of 425 cases per 100,000 residents, according to January 18 epidemiological report presented at a joint meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Crisis Management Council today.
At the same time, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence last week has decreased 11.4 percent from the week before last. At the moment, 858 new Covid-19 cases per day are registered in Latvia on the average. The share of positive Covid-19 tests has also decreased from 9.1 percent to 8.4 percent. Likewise, the number of Covid-19 tests per day has also decreased 4.3 percent to 10,184 tests.
At the moment, the two-week cumulative Covid-19 incidence is the highest in Latgale province where it exceeds 1,000 cases per 100,000 residents, while Kurzeme has the lowest rate.
Covid-19 incidence has been decreasing across all age groups except in children under 14. Most new Covid-19 cases are still being registered in the 50 to 64 age group, while the under-14 age group has the lowest incidence rate.
As reported, the Center for Disease Prevention and Control said on Monday that the restrictions have helped to slightly stabilize Covid-19 spread, but the incidence is still high.
6,096 new Covid-19 cases were registered during last week, while a week before 7,071 cases were registered. Last week the number of new cases was 871 on average per day compared to 1,010 cases a day a week before.
