Latvia First, New Unity and Green Party spent the most on their election campaigns ahead of local elections
RIGA, June 13 (LETA) - Political parties and associations have spent a total of EUR 2,110,364 on their election campaigns ahead of last week's local elections in Latvia, according to information compiled by the Corruption Prevention Bureau.
The top three spenders were Latvia First, New Unity and the Latvian Green Party.
Latvia First spent EUR 332,953 on its election campaign, New Unity EUR 262,605, the Green Party EUR 217,623, followed by the Union of Greens and Farmers - EUR 155,862, the United List - EUR 149,449, For Stability - EUR 135,550, For Latvia's Development - EUR 144,785, Platform 21 - EUR 110,910, the Progressives - EUR 113,143, and the National Alliance - EUR 106,765.
Harmony's election campaign cost EUR 68,872, the Latvian Association of Regions - EUR 53,275, and Let's Go, Latgale - EUR 46,556.
Other parties' election campaigns cost less than that.
Political organizations running in elections throughout Latvia were allowed to spend a maximum of EUR 869,640 on their campaigns. For political organizations running only in one municipality, the maximum amount of expenditure depended on the number of eligible voters in the municipality, and varied from EUR 4,020 to EUR 259,864.
According to the Corruption Prevention Bureau, none of the political parties and associations exceeded the maximum limits on their election campaigns.
As reported, local elections in Latvia were held on June 7. Election campaigns commenced on February 8.
