RIGA, June 4 (LETA) - The turnover of Riga National Zoo (Rigas Nacionalais Zoologiskais Darzs) decreased slightly last year, with profits also down, according to the information published by Firmas.lv.

Last year, the zoo's turnover was EUR 5.42 million, which is less than one percent lower than in 2023, when the turnover reached EUR 5.46 million.

Profit, on the other hand, has fallen more significantly, from EUR 106,300 in 2023 to EUR 14,830 last year.

According to the company's annual management report, the company's performance was affected by macroeconomic factors, mainly related to the general decline in household purchasing power and tourism indicators in the country and in Riga.

Rigas Nacionalais Zoologiskais Darzs was registered in 1991. It is wholly owned by the Riga municipality. The company's share capital is EUR 28,965,063.

Its main activities are the operation of botanical gardens, zoos and nature reserves, education and educational support, veterinary services, research and experimental development in the natural and engineering sciences.

The overall strategic objective of the Riga National Zoo is to maintain the only national zoo, to educate the public about the fauna of Latvia and the world and its conservation, to promote healthy lifestyles and tourism through quality recreation, to conduct research and to contribute to the conservation of rare and endangered species while ensuring a high level of welfare for the zoo's animals.
