Cesis municipal government postpones decision on restricting gambling in its territory
RIGA, May 19 (LETA) - Cesis municipal government has postponed making decision on restricting gambling in its territory, LETA learned from the local government.
Lawmakers planned to adopt legislative amendments that would ban gambling halls and casinos in the municipality, except for in four or five-star hotels with at least 15 rooms. If these amendments are adopted, the municipality might have to face objections from the Environment Protection and Regional Development Ministry as other local governments who have adopted similar regulations.
The local government in 2019 received two applications for authorization of locations for gambling facilities, but both applications were rejected. Lawmakers called on the ministry to develop methodological instructions on how to restrict gambling in the territory instead of banning it, in the opinion of the ministry.
After the ministry's opinion is received, the local council will return to the issue.
