Maps for military training areas in Latvia are updated at Armed Forces' request
RIGA, April 1 (LETA) - Maps for military training areas in Latvia are updated at the request of the National Armed Forces, for example, maps for Adazi military base are updated every two years, the National Armed Forces told LETA.
The maps are produced using the latest aerial photography and LiDAR data.
During the map updating process, the terrain is surveyed to ensure that the information available is correct and up-to-date. The maps show the current terrain, water bodies, marshes, infrastructure and target areas, said the Armed Forces.
All signs and symbols on the maps are internationally recognizable.
As reported, the bodies of three of the four US soldiers who went missing last week have been found in a swamp at the Pabrade training area in Lithuania's Svencionys District, the U.S. Army Europe and Africa said in a statement on Monday.
"Three U.S. Army Soldiers (…) were found deceased in Lithuania today," the statement reads, adding that the troops' whose identities are being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Search and recovery operations continue for the remaining fourth soldier.
The vehicle, operated by the four US soldiers, went missing during an exercise at the Pabrade military training area in Svencionys District last Tuesday. It was found on Wednesday at a depth of about five meters in a swampy area.
In a large-scale rescue operation involving Lithuanian, US, and Polish military personnel, as well as specialists from other Lithuanian services, the armored vehicle was pulled out early Monday morning.
