Latvian unemployment rate above EU/euro area average in January - Eurostat
RIGA, March 4 (LETA) - Latvia's unemployment rate was 6.9 percent in January, which is above the European Union (EU) and euro area average, according to the data released by the EU statistics office Eurostat on Tuesday.
In January 2025, the highest unemployment rates among EU member states were reported in Spain (10.4 percent), Sweden (8.9 percent), Greece and Finland (8.7 percent in each country), Estonia (7.6 percent), and France (7.3 percent). Unemployment in Lithuania was at 6.6 percent in January.
The lowest unemployment rates were reported in the Czech Republic and Poland (2.6 percent in each country), Malta (3 percent), Slovenia (3.3 percent), Germany (3.5 percent), and the Netherlands (3.8 percent).
Seasonally adjusted unemployment in the EU remained at 5.8 percent, and joblessness in the eurozone was also unchanged, at 6.2 percent.
Eurostat data show that 12.824 million people in the bloc were out of work in January, including 10.655 million people in euro area countries.
