One-third of Ukrainian refugees in Jekabpils Region are children

RIGA, March 22 (LETA) - Jekabpils Region has taken in 80 refugees from Ukraine so far, 26 of which are children, as Jekabpils Region Council told LETA.

The State Employment Agency currently has no information that any of the registered refugees have found a job. As visas are still being processed, only a few of the refugees can apply for employment at this time.

Six children from Ukraine currently go to a kindergarten and two to a high school in Jekabpils Region. Another two students will join them on March 28, said the municipality.

The guaranteed minimum income benefit has been paid for 57 persons by March 21 - in the total amount of EUR 5,144.

Many refugees are worried about finding a permanent residence and job opportunities after three months.

There have been no incidents involving Ukrainian refugees in Jekabpils Region, the municipality also said.
