Riga, Nov 25 (LETA) - The Riga Climate Assembly has developed and submitted 41 proposals to the Riga City Council for making the city greener, the organizerss of the assembly informed LETA.

For example, the municipality is urged to include rainwater solutions that promote rainwater absorption when designing and implementing projects, and to include solutions for using rainwater for irrigation when planning extensive green spaces.

The municipality is asked to prepare guidelines on what residents can do to make their yards greener. This would raise awareness and educate people.

The assembly members ask the municipality to organize competitions for neighborhood and residents' organizations with small grants of up to EUR 500 to provide resources for makin the urban environment greener.

The organizers of the assembly believe that this format of cooperation as an effective method of public participation in decision-making could be used in the future in every Latvian municipality to address various topics and issues, thus promoting both communication and trust between citizens and public institutions in the long term.

The Riga Climate Assembly was organized by the association Zala Briviba together with the Riga City Municipality with funding from the European Union Horizon Program.
