Daugavpils City Council considering several locations for accommodating illegal immigrants
RIGA, Aug 10 (LETA) - Daugavpils City Council is considering several locations in the city for accommodating illegal immigrants, Daugavpils Mayor Andrejs Elksnins (Harmony) told reporters on Tuesday.
Each morning, Daugavpils municipality is updated on the numbers of illegal immigrants detained on the Latvian-Belarusian border and the latest developments at the border, said Elksnins.
"We actively communicate with the State Border Guard," said Elksnins, adding that Daugavpils City Council representatives had a meeting with the local Border Guard officials.
The city council has also been asked by the Interior Ministry to consider until August 12 possible locations in the city for accommodating illegal immigrants.
As reported, the government today will consider declaring a state of emergency at the Latvian-Belarusian border due to the rapidly increasing numbers of illegal immigrants trying to cross into Latvia.
