Riga, June 8 (LETA) - The Central Election Commission (CVK) has done everything possible to ensure that the 2025 local elections are organized successfully, Kristine Saulite, CVK Chairperson, told LETA.

"It is clear that in the near future the responsibilities will be assessed, analyzing the responsibilities of each party involved. For my part, I can say that the CVK has done everything to ensure that the 2025 local elections will be successful," Saulite said.

In support of her position, she said that all voters who wished to vote had the opportunity to do so, and the votes were also counted.

"We need to find out why the digital counting process failed technologically and draw the right conclusions so that the mistakes are not repeated in next year's parliamentary elections," Saulite said.

As reported, President Edgars Rinkevics said earlier that the CVK and the State Digital Development Agency (VDAA) had failed in organizing local elections. In his opinion, the Saeima and the government should evaluate the work of these institutions and the responsibility of their officials.

The politician believes that there must be concrete solutions to ensure that next year's parliamentary elections run smoothly and without incidents.

Smart Administration and Regional Development Director Inga Berzina (New Unity) said that the State Digital Development Agency (VDAA) director Jorens Liops should take full responsibility for the problems in organizing the elections.

Berzina stressed on social media that the elections have taken place and the most important thing now is to finish the counting, but she believes that the director of the VDAA should take full responsibility for what happened.

As reported, the counting of votes in the 2025 municipal elections faced technical problems on Saturday and overnight on Sunday. Polling stations also faced technical problems during the week of advance voting.
