EUR 30 million allocated for street repairs in Riga this year
RIGA, April 29 (LETA) - Around EUR 30 million will be allocated for street repairs in Riga this year, Olafs Pulks (New Unity), head of Riga City Council's Traffic and Transport Committee, told a press conference on Tuesday.
A total of 112 street sections will be repaired, including pavements.
In Riga, 52 asphalted streets and street sections will be repaired, covering an area of 500,000 square meters in total. Another 60 streets and street sections will be resurfaced in an area of 77,500 square meters.
The municipality continues work to achieve the goal of having no gravel streets in the city, said Pulks.
According to Riga City Council's External Communications Department, the biggest street repair projects this year will be on Ganibu Dambis, Vecaku Prospekts, Karla Ulmana Gatve, and Bikernieku Street.
Gravel streets will be paved in Riga neighborhoods of Jugla, Jaunciems, Imanta, Bergi, Darzini and others.
Street resurfacing and repairs in Riga will continue until late fall, weather permitting. Due to these projects, there will also be traffic restrictions, which may significantly affect movement of automobiles and public transport, as well as pedestrians, said the municipality.
