Vidzeme Hospital receives 4 ICU ventilators from Finland
RIGA, Nov 5 (LETA) - Vidzeme Hospital has received the first international aid consignment, which includes four mechanical lung ventilation units for intensive care patients provided by Finland, the hospital's spokeswoman Benita Brila told LETA.
"The ventilation units will increase the capacity of the hospital's medical technology park amid a growing influx of Covid-19 patients, improve the equipment of ICU beds and help save patients' lives," said Santa Upeniece, head of the hospital's medical technology department.
The consignment is a part of international aid provided through the European Union Civil Protection Mechanism.
As reported, Finland, Hungary, the Netherlands and Sweden have provided Covid-19 aid supplies to Latvia.
Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital reported earlier that it had received six mechanical ventilators from Finland.
On October 31, Latvia received 50 sets of perfusion syringe pump equipment from Hungary. Later - on November 1 - Latvia received 80 artificial breathing devices from Sweden.
Latvia has received ultrasonography apparatus and stations which monitor vital signs from the Netherlands.
LETA also reported, in order to increase capacity of hospitals to treat Covid-19 patients, Latvia has asked the EU to provide assistance in acquisition of different medical equipment.
The Health Ministry has drawn up a list of different devices and equipment necessary in Latvia, including 120 lung ventilators, 12 lung ventilators that can be used in Emergency Medical Service transport, 363 vital sign monitors, 32 vital sign monitoring stations, and other equipment.
