State of emergency declared in two hospitals does not show overall situation in system - Pavluts

RIGA, Sept 7 (LETA) - State of emergency has been declared in Riga Eastern Clinical University Hospital (RAKUS) and Daugavpils Regional Hospital due to increase in the number of Covid-19 patients, but it does not show oeverall situation in the system, said Health Minister Daniels Pavluts (For Development/For) at the government meeting today.

This week, Covid-19 patients are admitted to six hospitals - RAKUS, Pauls Stradins Clininal University Hospital, as well as regional hospitals in Daugapils, Liepaja, Rezekne and Valmiera.

"Yesterday's alarming news about the state of emergency in two hospitals does not reflect the overall situation in the system. The system is adapting and we will be ready to admit a larger number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients," said Pavluts.

He said that the state of emergency in Daugavpils hospital is mostly related with the necessity to ensure epidemiological measures at hospital as the number of patients is large.

The number of hospitalized Covid-19 patients last week rose by 58 percent. The load in intensive care has also increased.
