Maternity ward at Balvi Hospital reopens after temporary closure due to Covid-19
RIGA, Dec 15 (LETA) - The Maternity and Gynecology Ward at Balvi Hospital, which was closed for two weeks due to the spread of Covid-19 among its staff, reopened on Tuesday, LETA was told at the Balvi and Gulbene Hospital Association.
The hospital's representatives told LETA that the infected employees have recovered from Covid-19 and are ready to resume work.
The hospital is now contacting the pregnant patients to reschedule their appointments with obstetricians.
As reported, during regular testing of doctors and staff at Balvi and Gulbene hospitals, several staff members at the ward tested positive for Covid-19. Taking into account that it was not possible to fully ensure the work of the ward, to cover on-call duty, a decision was made to close the ward for two weeks, until December 14.
Outpatient gynecological admissions in Balvi were also suspended during this time.
The hospital informed the responsible services that the ward has been closed and patients must be referred to other treatment facilities.
